Week 8 Update (10/22)

This week, I worked more in depth on my wakelet story on the top 5 Halloween-themed events in North Carolina. Even though our draft was due last week and I had a good chunk of it complete, I decided to make it the best that I could, so I did even more research to provide the best information possible on my five events.
On Saturday evening, I even physically went to the one local event myself (Woods of Terror) to get a real life experience about the event. I took some of my own photos to incorporate into my wakelet story.
I also took some time over the weekend to look into my third story on Congdon Yards. I created a google doc sheet on some research I found along with some contact references to use. I looked up what good days and times are to go to Congdon Yards to check out the building on my own time.
This week, I plan on finalizing, perfecting and submitting my final wakelet story and also getting ahead on my third story.
My beat in general has a lot of updates as well, and I am lookin at some of these stories to use as my future 4th story. I found that a burger joint located and originated in High Point, Pie ‘N Burger, was recently named the best in the country. Also, a triad high school student with down syndrome was just named homecoming queen.

Week 3 (9/10) Update

This week was a very productive week for the progression of my first beat story on the Stock and Grain Assembly. During class times this past week, I continued to work on filling out my beat notes along with establishing the type of news story I am making as well as the newsworthy element. I weighed out all the pros and cons, and decided that the type of news story for this specific story will be a broadcast package. I decided this because I believe that this establishment is very visual. I also wanted to hear directly from the community as much as I could, so adding in interviews with multiple members of the city of High Point will be very beneficial. I also finalized that the newsworthy element/message is ‘how/why Stock and Grain is impacting the community and assisting with the revitalization of the city’s downtown’. Even though I took a lot of time to research and find the right people to contact for interviews on my story, It was a challenge to find contact information. No emails ...

Week 5 (9/24) Update

Week 5 (9/24) Update: This week for my first beat story, I continued editing together all of my b-roll from the past weekend and wrote more of the script. I also finalized writing out all of my interview questions for Elizabeth Yocum (Stock and Grains Community Events Manager). I also was in contact with her, via email, about setting up our time to meet for her interview. We established it for 1:45 p.m. tomorrow (Monday the 25th). From here, I will be taking her soundbites and adding the best ones into my script, then editing the rest of my b-roll with the soundbites. From there, I will be finished with my first beat report.  I also went ahead this week to start searching for my second beat story topic. I checked all of my “go-to” credible website sources for the latest news, and what stood out to me the most was The Congdon Yards TAG Art Exhibit. Outside of class time, I furthered my research about this venue and event. The Congdon Yards is a new community center located in...

Week 10 (11/5) Update

This week and weekend, I have taken the time to develop deeper into my story 3 assignment. After my rough draft was due last week, I have taken my extra time to add and tweak my original plans. This weekend, I went back to Congdon Yards to get even more b-roll for my package. On Friday, I also followed up with my two interviews to get even better soundbites and information from them. Tomorrow, I am meeting with the CEO of Congdon Yards, Rachel Moss, to get her information and facts on the transformation of this downtown sight. On Tuesday, I will be finalizing all my edits then revising my script, as well. Within my lifestyle beat itself, I spent time today looking over what is going on in the triad area and gathering more ideas for my next story. For example, on Friday, a High POint resident won $100,000 from a $30 scratch off ticket. I thought this was a light-hearted story, but I don’t think it would be effective to cover. Another story that stuck out to me that I could possibl...
