Over fall break, I took some extra time to finalize what I am reporting on for my second story. Originally, I was planning on doing my story on the Congdon Yards facility and the fall art exhibit that is being hosted there for the community of High Point. After learning in class how to use the platform Wakelet, I decided to work on this for my second story in my beat, and save Congdon Yards for my third.
I decided to do this because I wanted to work on it over the fall break week, but realized it would be hard to do without physically being in High Point. Since the Wakelet assignment is all done through personal research and design, I chose to work on that.
Over the break, I took time to decide what to focus my Wakelet beat story on. Because it is the Halloween/Fall time of year, I decided to focus my story on the top 5 best Halloween-themed events throughout the state of North Carolina. I took time to research the most popular events that are hosted in the fall season here in North Carolina. Right now, I have a lot of facts and information gathered on 7 that stood out to me the most. Before turning in a rough draft, I am going to choose the top 5 that I want to write on and get it formatted on Wakelet.
For my entire lifestyle beat in general, there are a few popular stories right now. One is about how on Sunday, Nov. 5, we are turning back the clocks an hour at 2:00 a.m. and why we are still a part of the daylight savings observations. In Greensboro, there is a new story on how you can get jeans for less than $20. Also, a new story is developing about the Open Door Ministry in High Point and how the organization is opening a new homeless shelter.
I like the Halloween Wakelet story; it is good to follow news trends within your beat and this is a great one.
