Week 5 (9/24) Update

Week 5 (9/24) Update: This week for my first beat story, I continued editing together all of my b-roll from the past weekend and wrote more of the script. I also finalized writing out all of my interview questions for Elizabeth Yocum (Stock and Grains Community Events Manager). I also was in contact with her, via email, about setting up our time to meet for her interview. We established it for 1:45 p.m. tomorrow (Monday the 25th). From here, I will be taking her soundbites and adding the best ones into my script, then editing the rest of my b-roll with the soundbites. From there, I will be finished with my first beat report.  I also went ahead this week to start searching for my second beat story topic. I checked all of my “go-to” credible website sources for the latest news, and what stood out to me the most was The Congdon Yards TAG Art Exhibit. Outside of class time, I furthered my research about this venue and event. The Congdon Yards is a new community center located in...

Week 4 (9/18) Update:

Over the past week, I have made a huge update with my story on Stock and Grain Assembly food hall. Like I said last week, I was offered a press pass to the huge High Point Music Festival, by the general manager, that was hosted at Stock and Grain this past Friday and Saturday. It was a very successful event, and provided me with an incredible amount of content to make my story the best it could be. I am very glad that I decided to go with the broadcast news story route with this, because I was fortunate enough to get a lot of quality b-roll footage for my package this past weekend. Luckily, I didn't run into any struggles while gathering my content this weekend either. Every person and community member that I spoke with was very accommodating and willing to talk and share their thoughts and opinions. With our rough drafts due on Monday, I was able to edit a first version of my story together with the footage I re...

Week 3 (9/10) Update

This week was a very productive week for the progression of my first beat story on the Stock and Grain Assembly. During class times this past week, I continued to work on filling out my beat notes along with establishing the type of news story I am making as well as the newsworthy element. I weighed out all the pros and cons, and decided that the type of news story for this specific story will be a broadcast package. I decided this because I believe that this establishment is very visual. I also wanted to hear directly from the community as much as I could, so adding in interviews with multiple members of the city of High Point will be very beneficial. I also finalized that the newsworthy element/message is ‘how/why Stock and Grain is impacting the community and assisting with the revitalization of the city’s downtown’. Even though I took a lot of time to research and find the right people to contact for interviews on my story, It was a challenge to find contact information. No emails ...

Week 2 (9/4) Update

I have made some great progress over the past week within my beat report. Overview: My first beat report, in the beat of local lifestyle, will be on the Stock & Grain Food Hall Assembly, located in Downtown High Point. The reason I decided to focus on this particular subject is due to the growth and revitalization of downtown High Point. Stock & Grain has been the ‘hot topic’ of downtown's newest additions. I spent my Saturday afternoon/evening at the food hall. It was a very crowded night because of the High Point Rockers baseball game, which allowed me to introduce myself, as a reporter to the community, and make more connections. I also did this to become more comfortable with the place and develop a deeper an understanding of everything that goes on here, especially on a busy night. I made myself familiar with all of the food stands and enjoyed the entertainment that night, as well. I even tried a sushi bowl from Yumi and a box of mini doughnuts from Pops .  My...
